Every day he toils, binding, washing, splinting. Some days he is coverd in blood. Other days his ears ring so badly with cries of pain that his eyes are wild; at these times the wounded shrink from him, dragging their broken bodies to the dark corners of the bloodhouse. All that is broken he makes whole. Any rend of the body will heal, sooner or later, under his care. There are many wounded in the village these days. The earth chews us; gaps open for no reason, and sometimes close before everyone can be rescued. He insists on tending all the wounds himself; since his skill is unmatched, and he will not rest until everyone is treated, the village humors him in this. Long ago, the Mender was only a common healer. One night, frighteningly, he howled long under the moon, drinking strange juices and tracing signs in the air. The sky flashed green, and he fainted; ever since the earth has been restless. We believe this is why he does what he does; he is in a race to save at least as many lives as he has destroyed. heckler -- "...the ceaseless stroking of my ego is something that all creatures, living and dead, should obviously devote their existences to." -- Scowling Jim Cowling, the Merchant of Menace
